I have heard it said that disappointments come from unmet expectations. I think that pretty much sums it up. You have a picture in your head of how you think something will turn out and when it goes a total different way, you are left with the word why. A tough lesson I am learning right now is how to have trust when nothing looks how I would choose for it to.
I don’t want to be that person that is only trusting, faith-filled, and joyful when everything is going smoothly. When the picture in my head is being played out how I would want it to. Because guess what? That seldom happens.
When life throws changes that I definitely didn’t see coming, I see Proverbs 16:9 being played out that says, “A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” My soul knows to trust the Lord’s direction, but my mind needs the reminder quite often.
Something that has eased my mind lately (thanks Hillsong!) are the lyrics, “When I trust you, I don’t need to understand.” I don’t need to understand the whys of what is happening if I trust the Lord and believe, truly believe, that he is for me. I don’t need to understand how he is doing what he has planned.
I would love to hear some of your go-to ways that help you when life is taking you through twists and turns!
